The CHANGES Festival is happening for another year in 2019, taking over the Abbotsford Convent for two days of panel and discussion sessions, before hitting Melbourne’s live music venues in Fitzroy for unmissable performance showcases.
The collaboration between The Push, Yarra City Council, Music Victoria, APRA AMCOS, VMDO and the broader Victorian music community enjoyed a strong debut year in 2018, where the invite was cast out wide to ignite conversations surrounding the direction the Australian music industry is heading in. With dedicated talks centred on the realms of Music, Tech, Talks and Ideas, CHANGES is positioning itself as a must-attend on the Australian music industry’s calendar.
This year, I will be MC-ing the first day of CHANGES (July 3rd) at the Convent, while on Day Two (July 4th), I will be facilitating an ‘Art vs Artists’ Hypothetical forum. I did a similar event as part of Melbourne Music Week 2018, surrounding ethics in music journalism, but this time the spotlight is going to be put on the art vs artist conversation.
Joining me for the session are artists Atong Atem, Belinda Coomes, Chanelle Rogers and Miss Blanks, as well as event presenters Helen Marcou (The Bakehouse/SLAM) and Dr Catherine Strong (RMIT), Hypotheticals curator Jessie French, Richard Watts (RRR), Morgan Luck (Charles Sturt University), Dr Jo Mitchell (The Mind Room), Danny Blay (Intouch), and paralegal and human rights advocate Tara Suamba.
